A study of European and American carpets and rugs from the Middle Ages to the present day. The book begins with the oriental rugs first brought back to Europe during the Crusades, and then considers the carpets of the Savonnerie, Aubusson, and Beauvais in France, and at Moorfields, Exeter, and Axminster in England.
